Build up your CLOSET elegantly and sustainably with Nanushka
Nanushka Pre-Fall 2020
Meet the label that every fashion influencer has been flaunting on Instagram
When east meets west meets sustainable fashion, you get the fashion industry’s rising star – Nanushka. Strutting into the global fashion scene in 2016, the Hungarian label (founded by Sandra Sandor in 2005) has been since booming in terms of international presence, with great attribution to social media @nanushka and the influencer industry. Nanushka manifests effortlessly chic, elegant yet girly pieces with simple silhouettes that helps you get styled easily and quickly - this is no wonder social media has been blowing up with fashion influencers and even celebrities dressing up in their pieces. Defining themselves as a modern bohemian brand, the label perfectly captures the essence of modern and progressive elegance since its first showcase at New York Fashion Week collection in February of 2018.
Moving forward to its current Pre-Fall 2020 collection, Nanushka headed right towards monastic aesthetics with a hint of 90’s grunge. Having drawn inspiration from her time in New York, Sandor related the feeling of the 1990s grunge to the American Culture. The warm and earthy colour palette for this season is spiced up with a touch of pastel colours and denim, exploring different fabrics and textures. This collection seems to be in a disarray yet one with flair and elegance that alluringly tie the individual pieces together.
Nanushka is a brand that illustrates beauty through its style, to its manufacturing process. At its core, the label stands for sustainability, crafting fashion pieces with consciousness and striving to penetrate the industry as a sustainable fashion brand. Innovative upcycling of patchwork vegan leather has been exhibited on pieces such as the Rogue shirt and Vinni straight-cut pants. With the soft and smooth leather against your skin, one may forget that it is cruelty-free and deadstock materials as the research and development unit constantly upgrades its sustainability credentials. With an advocate to its design duality between the natural world and in its fabric choice and innovation, this collection also features many FSC-certified pieces, made up of responsibly forested lustrous satin that are ethically produced. With conservation in mind, the holistic team commits to a healthy planet, preserving forests and biodiversity.
The other highlight will be the unique and layering neck lines like collared, turtleneck and cowl necks seen on dresses, tops and even jumpsuits. With a smooth silk-satin finish, the versatile pieces instantly add a touch of elegance to any outfit. The Ula Top is the next trendy piece as the talk on the town. Worn by the former first lady of United State Michelle Obama, the wrap twisted blouse can be worn can be dressed up with their Magnolia skirt and accessories, or dressed down with denim and sneakers, yet either way flaunts a sense of confidence and style.
With the season becoming of Nanushka’s most sustainable collection to date ― What this collection has is a lot of options; what it lacks is a lot of waste. Tracing the 1990s grunge aspect on the designs to the time Sandor spent in New York leading up to the store opening, she stayed true to her vision, to “create a bridge between distant cultural references from different times and place. Always displaying elegance and femininity through simplicity, such essence is truly inimitable of Nanushka’s design philosophy.
